EXCLUSIVE PREMIERE: MIA Releases Emotional New Single & Music Video "If You Can't Take The Rain"

What a treat we have for you, today. ÊMIA has released her brand new single and music video, titled “If You Can’t Take The Rain”, and from our first listen and our first watch she managed to hit us right in the heart – this is one powerful track; and so, we jumped at the chance to premiere the song and music video. The new track follows up ÊMIA’s previous single, “Teleprompter”.

ÊMIA, real name Anh Le, is a Brooklyn-based singer-songwriter and producer. She’s been building herself up in the music industry for a number of years, first starting off with home-videos, to covering songs on YouTube, to releasing her music on SoundCloud. She has racked up millions of views since and that has allowed her to work with a variety of artists and high-profile labels. She’s currently gearing up to the release of her debut EP, titled Little Secret, which is set to be released next week – and we cannot wait.

This new single, “If You Can’t Take The Rain” has been written by Anh Le, herself, whilst it has been produced by Jacopo Trifone, and Ellis Forman mixed and mastered the track. As for the music video, that has been directed by Jesse Bronstein and Jacob Guzman Lawson, whilst the former also acted as director of photography.

Talking about the song, ÊMIA said: “I wrote ‘If You Can’t Take the Rain’ as a way to feel strong at a time when I was constantly afraid of being an emotional burden.”

What is brilliant about this song, is the way in which ÊMIA can tell a story from the first lyric to the last; she takes us into her world and allows us to relate to the track easily. Her voice is superb holding the emotion of the track throughout and really driving it home to the listener. The verses are stripped back allowing ÊMIA’s voice and her lyrics have the spotlight, but when the chorus kicks in, it becomes an uptempo number – we can so imagine this track getting awesome DJ remixes. The lyrics themselves speak of a close one who can’t take her tears, all she needs is a shoulder to cry on but the person she turns to doesn’t lend her their shoulder and so she’s built up the courage and strength inside of her. It’s a very empowering song that’s held with so much emotion.

As for the music video ÊMIA sure impresses to no end. The opening scene sees her wearing a sexy blue outfit whilst she’s boxed in, in a glass box. This scene is intercut throughout the visual and acts as the main performance part of the video. Half-way through the song, she stands up, linking to the confident second verse. As for the narrative side of the music video, ÊMIA can be seen in the bedroom next to a person who is wearing a suit but their head is covered. This part will get comparisons to Justin Bieber’s “Love Yourself” as there are dance sequences throughout, which both ÊMIA and her on-screen love interest knocks out of the park, with the choreography easily relating to the song. It’s clever that we don’t see the face of her love interest, allowing the song to be identifiable with people all around the world as it doesn’t state what the relationship is, and hides the identity of the character allowing that person to be of any race, gender, age, religion, ethnicity, and sexuality; and, as LGBTQ+ Pride Month comes to an end, it’s great to see more visuals that the community can relate to. ÊMIA stuns with this music video and the song, making us excited for the release of EP, Little Secret, next week.

“If You Can’t Take The Rain” is available to download and stream right now, via Internet_Girl Records. Her EP, Little Secret, will be released on Friday, July 5, 2019.
