David Warner award-winning home has insane detail, named in of NSW top homes lis

David Warner is not exactly going to be roughing it when he walks into retirement next month.

The veteran cricketer’s Sydney mega-home has been recognised as one of the best in the country — and it’s easy to see why.

The 37-year-old, wife Candice and three daughters Indi, Isla and Ivy moved into their dream home in Sydney’s eastern suburbs this year after a move six years in the making.

The opening batsman and the former Ironwoman have worked towards this moment since they began to build a bumper property portfolio around the Maroubra area they both grew up in.

One look at their new seven-level mansion shows just how far the cricketer has come after growing up in a Housing Commission flat at Matraville.

As reported by News Corp, the 892sq m property also includes a private beach and epic ocean views.

The family home features in the Top Homes of 2023, as judged by News Corp’s national real estate team on Friday.

The couple in 2021 sold their temporary home at Maroubra for $4.2 million in one of the final stepping stones to eventually moving into their forever home around the corner.

The temporary family home cost $2.33 million in late 2016 with its value almost doubling in the space of five years.

Their current property was purchased for $3.9m in 2017 and was at the time the couple’s fourth eastern suburbs purchase. The house was knocked down before work began on the seven-level mansion that has been valued at more than $10 million.

The dazzling natural light and endless ocean views are part of the reason it has been described as an “architectural marvel”.

The owners stay at the finest hotels in the world and were keen to evoke that same sense of luxury and sophistication here. But at the same time it’s also a beach house, and we wanted them to feel comfortable enough to walk in from the beach, toss off their shoes and really relax,’’ Interior Designer Alexandra Kidd told The Australian.

The Warners initially funded their purchase and construction by selling their South Coogee mansion for $7.05 million. The home had cost $6.25 million two years earlier.

The cricketer has continued to be in the headlines this week with controversy surrounding his place in the Australian team despite an extended form slump.

Even a first innings score of 164 in the First Test against Pakistan has not silenced his critics.

If selected, Warner will officially retire from international cricket following the New Year’s Test at the SCG next month.
